Adapting to Climate-Change-Induced Drought Stress to Improve Water Management in Southeast Vietnam

چکیده
In Southeast Vietnam, droughts have become more frequent, causing significant damage and impacting the region’s socio-economic development. Water shortages frequently affect industrial agricultural sectors in area. This study aims to calculate water balance resilience of existing resource allocations La Nga-Luy River basin based on two scenarios: (1) business-as-usual (2) following a sustainable development approach. The MIKE NAM HYDRO BASIN models were used for rainfall–runoff (R-R) modeling, respectively, Keetch–Byram Drought Index (KBDI) was estimate magnitude droughts. results identified areas within where abnormally dry moderate drought conditions are common, as well subbasins, i.e., southeast northeast, severe extreme often prevail. It also shown that demand irrigation winter–spring summer–autumn crop life cycles could be fully met under conditions. possibility decreases 85–100% during droughts, however. contrast, 65% 45–50% is cycles, Furthermore, this demonstrates still 100% 75–80% time moderate, or through increased use efficiency. help managers rationally regulate order meet sector’s needs region reduce costs caused by

Adapting to drought in the Sahel: Lessons for climate change
The Sahel’s experience of adapting to changes in rainfall on a scale at least comparable to that of climate change scenarios, between the 1960s and the 1990s, suggests that lessons can be learnt that may have a wider utility for policy in the future. The Sahel is a major global agroecological region and its success in adaptation will influence the achievement of the global Millennium Developmen...
متن کاملAdapting to Climate Change
This paper examines the optimal time to adapt to climate change. We take the perspective of a farmer growing a crop in a stochastic environment. The farmer faces stochastic seasonal growth, which makes harvest at the end of any season a random variable. Within a season, crop biomass is assumed to grow according to a continuoustime Itô process. The standard deviation rate of the Itô process is i...
متن کاملAdapting agriculture to climate change.
The strong trends in climate change already evident, the likelihood of further changes occurring, and the increasing scale of potential climate impacts give urgency to addressing agricultural adaptation more coherently. There are many potential adaptation options available for marginal change of existing agricultural systems, often variations of existing climate risk management. We show that im...

The interdependence and feedback between climate impacts mitigation and adaptation to the inevitable changes in climate are the key challenges for the built environment in the coming decades. These challenges are more pronounced in the interface between science and society, in which scientific knowledge and evidence are transformed into policy actions. This editorial looks at current and growin...
متن کاملAdapting forests and their management to climate change: an overview
Unasylva 231/232, Vol. 60, 2009 Forest adaptation to future environmental or social conditions resulting from climate change may significantly alter how and why forestry is practised in many parts of the globe. With the climate, and as a result the environment, undergoing perceptible changes within the life span of trees, achieving sustainable forest management will increasingly resemble aiming...
